Foundation Specialist
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Foundation Specialist to support the design, construction, and inspection of residential foundations prior to home construction. This role works closely with builders, engineers, surveyors, and excavation crews to ensure foundations are properly planned, built, and verified before vertical construction begins.
The ideal candidate understands soil conditions, load requirements, drainage, and structural integrity can spot problems before they become expensive mistakes
Duties and Responsibilities
Design & Planning
Assist in reviewing and interpreting foundation plans, site plans, and engineering drawings
Evaluate site conditions including soil type, slope, drainage, and access
Recommend appropriate foundation types (slab, crawl space, basement, pier, etc.)
Coordinate with engineers, builders, and inspectors during pre-construction planning
Construction Support
Oversee and support excavation and foundation layout
Verify footing depth, width, reinforcement, and formwork
Ensure proper placement of rebar, anchors, embeds, and utilities
Monitor concrete placement, curing, and finishing processes
Inspection & Quality Control
Inspect foundations prior to framing to confirm compliance with plans and codes
Identify structural, drainage, or workmanship issues early
Document findings with photos, notes, and reports
Communicate required corrections clearly to crews and project managers
Compliance & Safety
Ensure work meets local building codes, engineering specs, and safety standards
Coordinate with local inspectors as needed
Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites
Job Qualifications
Required
Experience in foundation construction, inspection, or structural work
Strong understanding of residential foundations and site prep
Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings
Knowledge of building codes and foundation best practices
Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Background in excavation, concrete, or structural construction
Experience working with engineers or inspection agencies
Certifications related to construction, inspection, or foundations
Ability to operate or work around heavy equipment
Physical Requirements
Able to move locations every other day for a fast paced inspection plans.
Doesn't mind to work with the crew to move the job along quicker.
Able to be on your feet for long periods of time.
Able to lift and maintain their issued tools
