Job Overview

Nelson Construction is seeking a highly motivated Construction Project Manager who will play a vital role in directing the construction activities of production residential new construction projects in Hartford County. Working under the direction of the Director of Operations and alongside skilled tradespeople, the Project Manager will be responsible for overall management and success of the project as well as client satisfaction and profitability goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead multifamily residential construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and overall project execution.

  • Negotiate contracts and manage subcontractor and vendor performance.

  • Collaborate with field staff to coordinate daily operations, resolve issues, and keep projects on schedule.

  • Monitor project costs, process invoices and payment applications, and forecast financial performance.

  • Ensure quality standards, safety requirements, and building code compliance are met.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and project stakeholders.

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and project documentation.

  • Identify project risks, develop solutions, and proactively resolve challenges.

  • Lead project teams while fostering a collaborative, positive, and accountable work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in multi-family new construction or real estate development.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex construction projects from initiation to completion.

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as BlueBeam, Fieldwire, Procore, DropBox, Smartsheet, Building Connected, Timberscan and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
